Bobbie Few is from Shelby, NC and we first met her through our outreach at a recovery home for women. Once we began building a relationship with her, she soon started coming to church with us. We picked up her up every Sunday and soon she joined the praise team and began using her vocal gift the LORD had blessed her with. Eventually she was baptized and testified that since she had fully given herself to the LORD she has never felt so much peace and joy.
Bobbie was one of our first participants of our self-defense lessons and also participated in our dog therapy sessions. She is now employed and has since received multiple raises. Bobbie began saving money and paid off all her fines. She graduated the rehab program in the recovery home she was staying in on October 14, 2022 and put a down payment on a car and obtained her license the very same day.
She now lives in our co-ed affordable housing with her son. They each have their own room and living space. Bobbie has grown into a godly mother who is now fully self-supporting and reliant on God. Her goals while staying in the co-ed affordable housing home is to work on her credit score and eventually get her own place for her and her son.
Bobbie has truly changed from the inside out and we are so grateful to be part of her journey and witness the transformation!
Bobbie & Chasty worshiping!
Originally from New York, Joe moved to Gaston County of NC in 2012 where he later found himself living on the streets. He became stuck in the cycle of addiction & incarceration until he finally was shown that there was a better way to live through Jesus Christ.
We first met Joe through our street outreach in 2020. He was living in a tent shooting up meth and heroin. Later he was arrested and we began visiting him. Upon his release in February of 2021, we placed him and transported Joe to a rehab program. However, Joe relapsed and was kicked out of the program. That's when we allowed him to live in our co-ed home rent free until he could recover. Joe relapsed multiple times but instead of kicking him to the curb we continued to work with him. Later that year he relapsed again and overdosed in October. After praying and seeking direction from the Lord, we sent him to detox and placed him in a more structured faith-based rehab program called Cornerstone in Gastonia.
Somewhere in the midst of all this we even helped Joe have some major dental work done through the support of our partners. He was able to get his teeth fixed and finally have a nice smile that he was proud of! Joe got a job while he was at Cornerstone and then graduated that program. Later, he moved back into the co-ed home we have. We taught him how to create a budget and gave him advice about managing his finances. Joe was paying bills, taking up responsibility, and working towards paying off his fines to obtain his license.
Due to our incapacity to continue taking him to work every day we came to a mutual agreement he would move to Oxford Housing in Gastonia close to his work where he could have some of his co-workers give him a ride until he can become fully independent. Joe is employed with a great company and has become a productive member of society. He has over one year clean and has surrendered his life to Christ!
