Renae Coleman, who is our secretary, holds a black belt in martial arts and has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to self-defense.
Through Renae's knowledge and training, we have been able to provide self-defense education to women in recovery from substance use. Most women, especially coming out of addiction, have experienced abuse, been attacked, raped, etc. So being able to learn how to defend oneself can be a real confidence booster!
Renae is teaching that when you strike, it’s better to strike using the strength of your shoulder verses the strength of your hand or arm. Using your shoulder creates a stronger blow!
Several women were able to punch through the board and some even with their heads. The key is to drive the force straight through.
